CHAPTER 6Challenge YourBeliefs: Is It True, Relevant, or Helpful Today?
After the child leaves the pond next to the cave, he comes across a goblin. The goblin looks friendly, so the child shares his conundrum: he's searching for the path of roses, but he's not sure what to think of the foreign‐princess‐on‐a‐horse story anymore.
“Do you have legs?” the goblin then asks.
“Yes,” says the child.
“Do you have eyes and ears?”
Yes and yes.
“Do you know how to use them?”
The child nods, perplexed.
“Do you know this forest?”
Better than anyone, the child says. He lives in the village nearby and he often plays there or collects mushrooms.
“Last I heard, the foreign princess has only two eyes and two ears and two legs, just like you. But unlike you, she doesn't know this area. So how can it be true that only she can show you the way?” asks the goblin. “In any case, even if it were true, it wouldn't matter.”
“Why not?” the child asks.
“Because I've never seen any foreign princess around here. So how does that help you?”

Once we've identified our mindtraps and the individual or collective voices associated with them, understood that they're only stories that our brain has created, and perhaps gotten an external nudge to embark on a mindshift, how do we break free? Unearthing these voices from our unconscious and bringing them into our awareness already drains some of the power they hold over our mind—just like sunlight neutralizes germs that would otherwise fester in the dark.
