In the early days of Agile Software Development, the Scrum methodology advised readers to follow the steps to the letter. If they did, the prescribed outcome was guaranteed.
I’m not sure I have ever observed Scrum working perfectly. Scrum is based on the understanding that the process needs to be changed to suit the people and the company, but it rarely is. Human beings are messy and complicated; that is why what we do is so challenging and rewarding. Every company is different, and software is written to solve new problems—problems that are unique to your company.
