Studio Cyclorama

The cyclorama (cyc) provides a general-purpose background. It can be used as a neutral or decorative staging facility, and introduced to create the illusion of space. It is usually in the form of a large taut ‘cloth’ which is suspended around the edge of the acting area. It is made of plastic, fireproofed duck, canvas or filled gauze and should be free of blemishes and, if possible, seam-free.

The height of the cyc is determined by the height of the studio and the type of production. For a 150 m2 studio a suitable height for the cyc would be about 5 m (16 ft), but if production requirements are for long, wide-angle shots and/or low-angle shots, a higher cyc may be necessary.
