Choice of Camera System

A wide range of camera systems is available, and it is important to select an appropriate type. The design of small lightweight cameras has developed rapidly, with continual improvement in performance and reduction in weight. Such cameras obviously offer great flexibility, both in the studio and on location. They can be hand-held and are easily rigged/de-rigged. Most can have supplementary accessories added when required for off-shoulder working, i.e. larger viewfinder, matte box, larger zoom lenses, servo zoom controls. Portable video cameras can be used with a separate videotape recorder or incorporate the VTR within the camera unit. Which type you use will affect your editing requirements.
