When Justin Uyehara was a teenager one of his favorite pastimes was fishing. Especially fishing for salmon on the American River not too far from where he lived. Northern California's American River runs from the Sierra Nevadas through the capital into the Sacramento River and eventually out into the San Francisco Bay. Justin's best fishing spot was at the Nimbus Dam in Folsom where there was a hydroelectric plant. Fishing at Nimbus always yielded the greatest catch.

"All of the fish go up the river but they get bottle-necked by the dam," says Uyehara, reminiscing about a 30-pound salmon he landed at age 15.

Most experienced anglers in the Sacramento area know about the salmon at Nimbus. The water is turbulent by the dam, and the large salmon returning from the sea to spawn up river congregate there.
