In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing.
Most of us have been hearing most of our lives about how special we are. But the unfortunate truth is, you just aren't that special.
I know. Take it in. Swallow hard. It's a reality check. We have been told forever that we were special. Our parents said so. Our participation trophies said so.
We know we are born into specialness and have something huge to offer the world, but a curious thing happens to a lot of people: We decide we are different, and not in a good way. We're different in that we just can't do it for one reason or another. We feel that we need to be different or this whole life and business thing might be way too easy. When we adopt a defeatist mindset, we deeply believe that we must be different. We have special circumstances, so we can't make more money or get more clients because we are different, or lesser, somehow. We aren't good enough.
Let me provide a short list of some of the reasons you might be different:
- Health issues
- Family problems
- Relationship challenges
- A day job
- A set of made-up rules we have created for ourselves
- No car
- No hair
- No clean underwear
Chances are you don't have that many problems. But what are the odds that most people don't have at least one problem on that list, or countless others?
Pity is gratification for losers. Problems don't ...
