2 Strategic Role
What role does followership play in fulfilling the strategic objectives of organizations? This question is best answered by considering what a role is, and its strategic context. Role theory has been studied in diverse disciplines—sociology, psychology, and organizations. However, in the organizations and management domain, the focus has principally been in leadership (i.e., leaders and followers) due to the psychological focus. I extend role theory to explicate strategic role theory and elaborate on how strategic followership fits with the strategic role perspective.
