Advanced theories for composite beams, plates and shells

Abstract

The present chapter deals with the development of advanced PVD and RMVT-based beam, plate and shell theories. The latter are featured by hierarchical capabilities and are generated by using the Unified Formulation (UF). In the first part of the chapter, the UF notation is introduced and carefully described. The concept of fundamental nucleus within the framework of the UF is proposed. Advanced Finite Element (FE) formulations based on refined UF models are presented. Several examples involving the derivation of the FE matrices as well as the assembly procedure are shown.
