We have so far discussed the macroscopic approach. As mentioned in Chapter 1, the other approach that has been rigorously followed by researchers is the microscopic approach earlier, wherein the matter is thought of being made from molecules. The theory developed on this basis by Bernoulli is known as the kinetic theory of gas. Later Clausius, Maxwell, and Boltzman made important contributions in its development.
