One aspect of innovation that I believe is often overlooked is the fact that it is hard work. Innovation is often linked to having a great idea, and having a great idea tends to be interpreted as a sudden insight, like the typical lightbulb popping up inside the thought cloud of comic book characters who have the most brilliant idea ever. In my experience, idea generation is mostly a process of evangelization, adaptation, and alignment in which it may take a long time before you reach the point where an idea is clear, accepted, and feasible.
