Self-Reliance in the Twenty-First Century

We need to reclaim our lives from experts and technologies, a challenge that requires faith in ourselves and trust in our instincts—in short, a twenty-first-century self-reliance. We need to restore our faith in our own common sense and overcome our love affair with technology—it’s a tool to supplement, not replace, our thinking. We should keep experts on tap, not on top. We all have the ability and responsibility to see the big picture and connect the dots, because not doing so is likely to create more problems than it solves.
