Managing Globally

Managing globally used to be the exception. Now most managers have an international dimension to their work even if they never leave their offices.

This evolution was explained to us by Erin Meyer, a professor at INSEAD and an expert on cross-cultural management. “Until probably seven or eight years ago mostly what people working across cultures needed to understand was how another culture was operating. It was usually about two cultures working together. So maybe you would have a French person who was wanting to better understand American management or an American who was wanting to understand the various management styles of different European countries.
