Business models for MOOCs
Abstract
The creation of sustainable business models for MOOCs is one of the most discussed and contentious issues that has arisen so far in MOOC history. This chapter describes and discusses the income generation models that are being used by the three main MOOC providers, Coursera, edX and Udacity, and also the UK's FutureLearn platform, with the most commonly used models being charged-for certification, secure assessments and charges for recommending third-party services.
