Data and analytics

Abstract

This chapter focuses upon data and analytics, which both have the potential to provide real added value to universities as they seek to reshape their offer and to differentiate themselves from their peers. Online learning and MOOCs, in particular, make it easier for universities to gather data about learning behavior and learners, and to apply analytic tools to the data in order to understand behavior, preferences, and problems. If the right tools are available and, most importantly, are applied to the right data in the right way, then they can be very powerful in helping institutions to understand their current students and to predict the future behaviors of both current and possible future students.
