Database Connections

Oracle provides two primary ways or mechanisms for identifying the database you want to connect to: via an alias or direct connect string. Even though these two key connection methods accomplish the exact same thing, most Toad users will find that they favor one or the other. Both have pros and cons; it all depends on your likes and preferences. However, Toad permits using both connection methods if you so desire.
