What is the core purpose of your team? What behaviours will ‘make or break’ team commitment and cohesion? What are your priorities? How can you create a vision that will capture the hearts and minds of your team?

We have observed and applied countless approaches to facilitating the alignment of leaders and teams. Amongst these are ‘North Stars’, ‘True North’ and even ‘Moon Shots’, together with the usual ‘Mission – Vision – Values’ frameworks.

Each of these has merit. However, we believe that alignment is achieved only when there is commitment to a shared direction and focus. Accordingly, the two building blocks in this chapter as defined on the Team Canvas are Direction and Focus.

You may choose just to go straight to the priorities that emerged in your Team Canvas evaluation activity, or work through the sequence as shown in the snapshot of the Align portion of the canvas.
