3Semantic Web Approach for Smart Health to Enhance Patient Monitoring in Resuscitation

The monitoring of resuscitation patients is one of the most critical healthcare tasks. The Internet of Things medical devices enable healthcare providers to continuously monitor patients by providing them with vital signs data. However, where hospitals and resuscitation rooms are overcrowded, and medical staff is in short supply, detecting critical patients during pandemics is complex, and prompt intervention is impossible. To make these tasks easier, data analytics, using Smart Health Internet of Things applications, provide a boost for automatically monitoring patients to ameliorate healthcare, reduce errors and improve the patient experience. However, it is impossible without understanding data semantics due to the various and heterogeneous sources that provide raw data. To address this, one could provide semantic interoperability for medical monitoring devices in resuscitation and data generated using Semantic Web technologies to transform raw data into harmonized data to build innovative e-Health applications to enhance the monitoring of intensive care patients and help resuscitation personnel make accurate and timely decisions. Hence, this chapter proposes a knowledge representation and reasoning framework to semantically annotate data for analyzing the semantics of vital signs monitors and data that come from them. The authors also infer and discover new information and address complex ...
