21. Government Apps
The final apps category in Microsoft’s Windows Store is labeled Government. This may be a bit misleading. There aren’t any official apps from the U.S. government in the Store; there also aren’t many (if any) apps having directly to do with the government. Instead, there are some well-intentioned civics apps, a few of which are worth exploring.
Best History App
When I was a kid, I learned about history from the encyclopedia. (In our house, it was Compton’s Encyclopedia; other families had the revered Encyclopaedia Britannica.) Print encyclopedias have since gone the way of the buggy whip; today we get our history from the Internet—and from these quality Windows 8.1 apps.
