The Central American RegionalProtocol on Access to Genetic andBiochemical Resources
The Central American Protocol on Access to Genetic and Biochemical Resources was negotiated by the member states of the Central American Commission on Environment and Development (CCAD), which are Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama. The process of developing the protocol required each state to consult internally with civil society. This chapter makes reference to the main issues addressed during discussions on the protocol. The protocol has been signed by the seven members of the CCAD and is awaiting ratification before the national parliaments.
