Sporting chance
Without doubt, football is one of the most closely followed sports in the world and no more so than the FIFA World Cup, which takes place every four years. Outside North America, the tournament is probably one of the most prominent events in the sporting calendar, perhaps only coming second to the Olympic Games.
For instance, during the last World Cup in Germany in 2006, over 26 billion football fans in 214 countries viewed the event on television, including a staggering 715 million for the Italy versus France final.
