CHAPTER 49Courage is contagious; walk with giants

There have been plenty of times over the years when I've found myself feeling a little (or a lot) out of sorts, unsure of myself and the best way forward. Sometimes I've just needed a listening ear to vent a frustration. Other times I've needed someone to bounce an idea off, to challenge my thinking, or help me figure out the best way forward. And other times, I've simply wanted a word of encouragement; a reminder to keep faith in myself and my dreams.

ISOLATION IS A DREAM KILLER.

Having people to lean on during those times has made a profound difference in my life. In fact, I think it's fair to say you wouldn't be reading this book now if I hadn't been able to lean on the support of others when I needed it. By sharing your journey with others, those you travel with can help you navigate the obstacles you face, pick you up when you fall, lend you their courage when yours is low and point you in the right direction when you're lost. And let's face it, there are times when we can all lose our bearings. Isolation is a dream killer.

That said, if you're hanging with people who aren't much into dreaming, you may find the going tough. I'm guessing you've heard the saying ‘you become the company you keep'. That's because you can't help but be shaped by the values, outlook and emotions of those you spend time with.
