Getting Real Value from Analysis

Chapter 3 showed you how to use the Gaps Map process to analyze business and performance needs. Now you're ready to work with the Learning Analysis phase of the Handshaw Instructional Design Model (see Figure 4.1). Included in this chapter are specific instructions on how and when to use four analysis steps, along with helpful tools and tips that guide their use. Keep in mind that you may not need to perform these analysis steps the same way every time you use the Analysis phase. One particularly useful concept covered in this chapter, called the cost-vs.-risk rule, is designed to help you determine how much time, if any, should be devoted to each analysis step. The analysis steps are as follows:
