Dinh Q. Lê (b. 1968), who earned his MFA from the School of Visual Arts (1992), was born in Vietnam, but the Khmer Rouge invasion of his village forced his family to flee, and eventually emigrate to the USA in 1979. While a young boy in Vietnam, Lê learned the time-honored custom of grass mat weaving from his aunt, a skill which decades later influenced the development of his handwoven photographs.
