AMERIPRISE FINANCIAL REINVENTS ITS HR FUNCTION
In 2005 the leaders at Ameriprise Financial found themselves in interesting times. The organization had just been spun off from American Express. This gave them a great opportunity to drive the business to new heights of success, but it also meant grappling with the fact that they had suddenly lost a great deal of the infrastructure American Express had provided. For staff groups, big holes needed to be filled immediately. For HR, something as basic as payroll became a major issue. However, the HR function did something inspiring—they managed to see beyond the crush of urgent problems and used this time of transition to begin implementing a fresh vision of what HR can be.
