Reflections on What We’ve Learned
Many readers will have experienced how HR shifted from being the personnel department, focused on compliance and administration, to being the department of human resources, focused on providing great services in such areas as recruiting, training, and performance management. The thesis of Boudreau and Ramstad (2007) is that the discipline of HR has not reached the end point of its evolution, and that the next, transformative step is for HR to focus more on decisions about human capital and to educate both HR and non-HR leaders to make those decisions with greater logic and analytical rigor.
