Securing success in change initiatives—even if you have willing and cooperative stakeholders, a change-centric culture, external support, and committed leadership—requires effective use of strategies, processes, policies, structures, and appropriate organizational tools to implement and support the change efforts. Collectively, we refer to these elements as change implementation mechanisms. We have identified strategic planning and management, change structures, and organizational learning as three sets of implementation mechanisms that are critical for ensuring the success of major change and transformation initiatives.
