The Reality of Life

One of the foundations of either process- or systems-driven thinking— is the presumption of cause and effect. Every effect has some underlying cause or causes, and the relationship may be complicated and require us to experiment to understand the relationship. With enough effort, it can be understood, and the performance of the system predicted. The root cause or contributing causes can be identified, be they defective units of production, delays in manufacturing, customer dissatisfaction, noncompliance against procedures, or even product recalls.
