Time-Domain Analysis of Two-Conductor Lines
In this chapter we study the time-domain solution of transmission lines composed of two conductors of length , as shown in Fig. 2.1. The two conductors are assumed to be parallel to the z axis of a rectangular coordinate system and of uniform cross section along their lengths. The source driving the line, , may have some general waveshape in time, although we will generally concentrate on periodic waveforms of trapezoidal shape as in Fig. 1.1, representing digital clock and data signals. The source will be represented as a Thévenin equivalent circuit consisting of a voltage source in series with a source resistor represented by . The load will be represented by a resistance , although PSPICE can be used to investigate lines terminated at either end in nonlinear dynamic terminations.
