Understanding exposure

I don’t know many people who truly enjoy talking about exposure, but understanding the basics of exposure is essential to creating a strong foundation for photography. My goal in this chapter is to show you how to expose a frame properly in any type of light. I’ll start with the basics of exposure, including shutter speed, aperture, and ISO, how to use your histogram, and some of my preferred camera settings. Finally, I’ll share some of my favorite techniques to finding good light and working with bad light when you can’t avoid it.
