Abstract
In this first chapter, the authors aim to summarise the main themes and issues, successes and opportunities, challenges and threats that the developing information environment – in its broadest sense – encompasses, as evinced and explored in the rest of this book. The topics covered are wide-ranging indeed, but this is a sign of the times, the all-embracing nature of the Internet and the very many challenges that are evident for us all, whether creators, providers or users of information.
