What we leave behind: the future of data curation

Abstract

The term data curation was first formulated for scientific data. Once published, scientific data should remain available forever so that other scientists and researchers can reproduce the results and perform further experiments using this data. Traditionally, researchers have not saved or documented everything for long-term access, as this was neither economical nor feasible. However, it is now becoming possible to store all the data from most experiments and storage and access over the Internet is a reality.
