Duncan McAlynn is the founder of Operandis and the host of the podcast series Cyber Speaks LIVE. He is an InfoSec professional with more than 25 years of industry experience, and now, semi-retired, he develops technical content for the cybersecurity industry and is mentoring the next generation of cyber champions. Throughout his career he has consulted with numerous Fortune 500 companies, government agencies, and educational organizations on enterprise management and security strategies.
Duncan is active in his local community, supporting security BSides events, attending local hacker association meetups, and going to ISACA and ISSA meetings, and he is a member of the FBI InfraGard.
How do you define a blue team?
Blue teamers are a special breed. They tend to be the empathetic type who sees someone in need and does something to help. Those same heartfelt principles apply when these frontline defenders of the world take on the role of blue teamer. They become the protectors and defenders of the nation's corporations, government agencies, nonprofits, and learning institutions. They stand up to the challenges and face their attackers head on. I applaud their efforts daily.
