Don’t think your staff doesn’t notice. They do. They hear you expound on the importance of the customer, then watch you cut staffing levels; they take note when you insist “we all” work Saturday to finish a project, then see you show up briefly; they understand you’re a stickler for everyone meeting your deadlines, then are surprised when you don’t meet yours and their performance appraisals are weeks late. If you don’t take what you say seriously, why should they?
