Chapter 3 attraction

The first thing you notice when you know your True Purpose is its effect on other people. If you explain your purpose with passion and honesty — vulnerability even — a lot of people will ‘catch’ it.

What I mean by that is, instead of just nodding in agreement to signify a level of understanding, like people do when you’re explaining a functional thought, it’s as though something gets switched on behind their eyes. Like a narrow beam of light shining through a window that’s opened just a little. I think the source of that light is that person’s innermost authentic beliefs. It’s faint because our core beliefs are often hidden away deep inside us. But that little light is actually a powerful fuel for a better kind of capitalism and it’s incredibly exciting and rewarding when you spot it. Especially when it’s your truth that makes it appear.

Sometimes I also notice a person’s expression become slightly wistful, and they may smile. Sometimes they’re not even aware of it. But I notice it and it happens a lot. Even in the most dour business person. In fact, these unconscious reactions have become one of my little tests as to whether or not I’m communicating a genuine True Purpose.

I think what’s happening is that they’re beginning to open up parts of their brain other than the logical bits (you can tell I’m no scientist, but stick with me on this). I think what I’m seeing is the authentic human coming forward, the primitive self that has an innate desire to serve ...
