8. Managing to the Plan

Once you have launched the team, you are ready to get to work. In simplest terms, all you have to do now is to follow the plan. That, however, is not always easy. Few people have ever worked with detailed plans, and they will either not know how to follow a plan or will give up when the plan doesn’t exactly fit the job. Plans are never precisely accurate and unexpected things always happen. With experience, developers learn to expect problems and to plan for them. However, until they have enough experience, they will need leadership and guidance.
