The work of an organization and its parts derives from its Vision, its structure, and its strategic plan. The organization is in place for a customer-related purpose. Breaking down the customer’s needs into required activities and steps gives form to the organization and its formal work processes. It marshals resources and contributes to a strategic plan to do what needs to be done in each time period to satisfy that customer need. If the organization communicates all this clearly, the employees are then ready to think about how the work needs to be done.
