Around the start of 2009 a news programme was holding a debate about the global financial crisis. The leading question was: “How is it possible to lift morale in such unprecedented circumstances?” Several experts were there to share their views.
One of the panel was an ex‐RAF pilot. I guess the correlation was something along the lines of how can we keep our heads and get ourselves out of a seemingly impossible situation. He talked about a particular sortie whereby he found himself flying into a combat zone, which consisted of his plane and that of four enemy aircraft.
“How did you feel when you realised your predicament?” he was asked.
