Electronics and the future

This chapter is the one that needs more revision than any other when the time comes for a new edition of the book. Electronics changes rapidly and this chapter reflects the changes. Developments which were new at the time of the previous edition may have come to fruition and are now transferred to the earlier chapters of the book. In the 1995 edition we wrote about what was then referred to as the ‘Information Superhighway’. Now the Internet is firmly part of everyday life. Today is the era of ‘dot-com’.
