Stereotypes, preconceived notions, and subjective truths allow us to digest, categorize, and make sense of massive amounts of information. One only needs to look at the various myths about the military, combat, and veterans to see these processes in action.
Relying on stereotypes to understand groups of people has it benefits. For example, there is no way I can know everything about all educators. But, based on my personal experiences with a small sample, I can draw some basic generalizations:
• Educators are intelligent.
• Educators care about others.
• Educators are creative.
• Educators are service oriented.
