Augmented Reality Applications

Introduction

As discussed in Chapter 1, augmented reality (AR) is much more than a set of technologies. Augmented reality is, in fact, a medium. Viewing AR as a medium allows us much more leeway in considering different ways that AR might be applied in the world rather than what a certain set of technologies can support today. Indeed, until AR is applied to a problem of some sort, whether it is for utilitarian purposes, for education, for artistic expression, or just plain fun, the technology itself might be interesting as a novelty for a brief time, but will not sustain deep interest until it is made to do something of importance to the AR application developer and/or whoever experiences that usage ...
