Rapport is the door to any relationship – if it cannot be opened and kept open then the relationship just fails to flourish. It also has a role to play in adversarial situations such as a negotiation and is certainly essential if you wish to persuade someone to your point of view.

In everyday language rapport is about getting ‘in sync’ with another person; it is ensuring that the other person feels comfortable in your presence and not in any way threatened.
