Manage your emotions

So far in this book, you will have learnt that emotional intelligence means recognising, understanding and accepting emotions. The next step is to use your emotions to inform your responses, actions and behaviour. This does not mean controlling your emotions. It means being able to manage your emotions.

Controlling your emotions involves dominating, mastering, or suppressing your emotions. When you try to control your emotions then you are fighting against yourself. On the other hand, managing your emotions involves handling your emotions with a degree of skill and flexibility. You are working with yourself.
