6  LED Lighting Design and Simulation

6.1  Introduction

In the last chapter we have seen that, in order for LED lamps to satisfy the lighting requirements of common applications, they need to provide illumination over broader angular ranges on a much larger scale compared to what the current products are able to accomplish. The current method of scaling with tiling modules is appropriate for signage and display applications because they only require incident illumination on a plane that is very near to the LED emitters. However, it is not desirable for high-quality ambient illumination, especially for those required by large-space lighting applications.
