The purpose of this chapter is to consider some of the benefits realized through the deployment of a PKI. It also briefly discusses cost considerations (from a generic rather than monetary perspective).
Ultimately, it should be recognized that a sound and justifiable business case must drive the deployment of any technology. This applies equally to PKI technology. The key is to focus on business drivers, not technology.
It is not the intent of this chapter to provide a boilerplate for the development of a business case, but the chapter does identify many of the factors that should be taken into consideration when developing such a business case.
