The Future
During the time of writing this book there has been a great deal of talk about the new “wireless” Internet. At the moment this technology is in its infancy but it promises to deliver a great deal to a potentially new and very large audience. Three important new technologies underpin this “wireless” revoloution:
- WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) – provides the equivalent of the traditional HTML-based Web applications and services;
- UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) – the new 3G (third generation) mobile phone standard providing greater bandwidth and increased functionality to the mobile phone; and
