One of the defining aspects of humanity is our yearning to make sense of the world through myths and storytelling. In his book A Hero with a Thousand Faces,1 Joseph Campbell argues that this cross-cultural desire has given rise to what he calls the “Hero’s Journey.” This is an archetypal story in which the hero or heroine leaves the comfort and certainty of home and sets off on an epic journey to unknown lands and worlds.
