The practice of instrumental measurement and specification of color

Color measurement is the science of colorimetry and allows three numbers to be measured to specify a color. It was made possible because of work by color pioneers such as David Wright and John Guild in the early twentieth century. The CIE system of colorimetry was internationally adopted in 1931.
