The range of colors that can be created by a colorant or a color-forming system
Some say that we can generate all possible colors from three color primaries. Whether we use subtractive mixing or additive mixing, this is not, in fact, possible. However, it is possible to create all hues but not all at high chroma.
If the primaries are carefully selected, then it is possible to generate a wide range of colors. The range of colors that can be created by a set of colorants or a set of lights when mixed is called the color gamut.
