In 1810 renowned poet, playwright, novelist, and statesman Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749–1832) published his seminal work on color, Zur Farbenlehre (Theory of Colours). Although the book was somewhat controversial in his times, it has been highly esteemed by many, including J.M.W. Turner, Wassily Kandinsky, Novalis, Werner Heisenberg, Kurt Gödel, Ludwig Wittgenstein, and Hermann von Helmholtz.
