In the process of creating a work of art or design—using any medium or materials—artists and designers select a set of colors that determines the appearance and overall gestalt of the work. The palette refers to all the colors in the set, which can include vivid hues, chromatic neutrals, and achromatic colors. Some colors may be more dominant, while others may be used as accent colors.
